This game follows a non-linear strategy to tell its story. The game has parts and each part is subdivided into missions that have no preferred order. The player can't skip parts nor shuffle missions from different parts. The player has the choice to skip one mission in each part, the one left for the last. The problem with this strategy is that the game loses depth in its plot. As each mission can be taken in any order and they do not affect the others in any way. The tales in each mission are very shallow. To make matters worse, one mission in each part may be completely skipped, which means that the events in each mission must not be crucial to understand the bigger plot.

In the previous game, Jedi Outcast, the plot has a much bigger impact for being linear. Every event happens in the same order, which means that the impact of each one is more meaningful in developing the character. In Jedi Academy this depth is lost and the plot is much more shallow.
